5 Photography Tips For Snapping A Perfect Photo Of The Sydney Opera House
The harbour itself is found adjacent to the city’s central business district where you’ll see modern office blocks towering above making this place a truly awesome spot for a photo opportunity. Here are five tips for you to get the perfect photo of one of Sydney’s central showpieces.
From a Boat on the Harbour
As you are sailing in and out of the Sydney harbour if you can get the right motion with your vessel, you can get some unique snaps of the Opera House. From various points on the water, you have the ability to see the opera house from another angle. For the serious photographer, you can hire boat on the harbour specifically for this purpose at day or night. If this is too costly, you can just jump on a ferry and get some great shots from places such as Circular Quay.
During Vivid Sydney
One of the best times to get night time snaps of the Opera is in June when the Vivid festival comes to town. The festival celebrates Sydney’s art and culture, as well as give citizens a chance to have a voice in the future of the city. What’s spectacular about this show is the fact that when it comes to lighting, there is no expense spared.
The Opera House is lit up with a lighting display that turns the white overhanging sails into a display of multi coloured rays. It almost looks as if someone has repainted the sails with an artistic match of shades that blend in to represent the direction today’s modern arts industry is heading. A very clever way to catch the eyes of those with a more artistic side to their personality.
If you are not in Sydney when the Vivid festival is on the Opera House is still just as beautiful in the day time and evenings. Planning to get the right shot can be tricky as the city has a habit of going from the light of day to darkness within minutes. You also have to bear in mind the weather, but luckily for the most part Sydney’s weather is pretty reliable.
A good tip to bear in mind if you are planning on a sun set shot, you will probably want to keep a couple of evenings free to get the perfect photo.
From Taronga Zoo
The zoo is ideally placed on a hill that overlooks the Opera House from a distance. There are plenty of good opportunities to get snap shots to include passing boats, the background buildings and if you are really good, you’ll be able to get the bridge into the right hand side of the photo.
Museum of Contemporary Art’s cafe
Another tourist attraction you can visit providing a side view of the Opera House giving you yet another angle is the contemporary arts museum. Here you can kill two birds with one stone. Go and have your fill of contemporary art in the museum, and then sit down and have a coffee while deciding how to create some art of your own by getting the perfect snapshot. Furthermore, for a similar view on the other side of the Opera House, you may also want to check out the Glenmore Hotel rooftop.
