When making a trip to Australia you need to be fully aware of the tourist visa rules. By doing so you will avoid any immigration problems and get on with what you came for; Enjoyment! Of course, don’t forget to book your airport transfer to make your arrival in Australia as smooth as possible.
Who needs a visa?
Although there are exceptions regarding length of time in the country in general anyone who is not an Australian citizen needs a visa.
What types of visas are issued?
The answer to this one is; several types. You need to decide what it is you are going for. Visitor visas are available for tourists who are going to Australia for a holiday and young people who are going on working holidays. You may apply for a visa if you are a student and plan to study there, and if you are a skilled worker that the Australian government needs you can apply for a worker visa.
What documentation will you need?
Make no mistake; the immigration authorities require the correct documentation before they will approve your application. This is the same as anywhere so take your time and get it right first time!
Copious amounts of information are available on the Australian immigration website and other resources on the net. Dependent upon the visa you are applying for documentation such as your passport, educational qualifications, bank statements and doctor’s certificate may be required.
The Australian immigration website offers a visa wizard section which helps you to determine exactly which visa you should apply for and what documentation is required.
Most popular visa
The majority of people who travel to Australia are under 31 years of age. This means they are eligible for a working holiday visa or a work and holiday visa. These are relatively easy to obtain and give you 12 months, or in some cases two years to live and work here.
Points to be aware of with this type of visa
You can only work for the same employer for 6 months maximum. It is possible for you to do different jobs for the same employer during these 6 months, but after this you should look for a different employer.
You can take any work that is offered to you as long as it is not one which requires you to be an Australian citizen or a permanent resident.
If you have a Working Holiday visa rather than a Work and Holiday visa you can apply for a second Working Holiday Visa. The rules on applying for this 2nd visa are clearly stated so brush up on them if you intend to stay for another year.
It is not that difficult!
As long as you complete the application forms, supply the relevant information, and have money to pay for your visa, getting one is not that difficult at all!
