Visit The Sydney Aboriginal Heritage Museum The Next Time You Are In Sydney!

If you are ever in Sydney and happen to be a history buff as well, visiting the Sydney Aboriginal Heritage Museum in North Sydney is a trip that you should definitely schedule. A large number of people outside Australia are not familiar with the concept of aborigines, so visiting this museum is likely to increase your scope of knowledge about them and their culture. This is especially so if you are travelling with your kids, who may end up finding the trip to be very exciting.

Aboriginal Heritage Museum What you can expect to see

There is a lot to do with aboriginal culture and traditions in the museum. In addition to that, it is also home to some of the historical relics relating to Australia in general. Some of the specific things that many people usually come to see at the museum include:

Tools and weapons

The aborigines had to develop a large variety of tools for hunting, fishing and ware fare. One of the common features about the tools they made was that many of them could be used for more than one purpose. This was done by design to reduce the number of tools that they had to carry around. The museum has a large display of all the different types of tools that were used in the past, most of which have been maintained in pristine condition.

Artefacts

A common theme in aboriginal culture was that most of them were very resourceful, and were very creative in making trinkets that could be used to make everyday life easier. When you visit the museum, you are likely to see some of these, including carriers and utensils.

Relics of British Colonisation

The current Australia was founded mainly by colonialists from Britain. The aboriginal museum has a number of displays which happen to be relics of this colonisation. These include some of the uniforms that were used by the colonialists, as well as the gear that the Aborigines had at that point in time.

Relics of the impact of colonisation

The colonization of the aborigines was not an entirely rosy affair; there are signs that the colonialists ended up treating the original occupants of the land badly. Visiting the museum will show evidence of this in the form of photos as well as display of items that were used to oppress them.

Aboriginal Heritage Museum When to visit Sydney Aboriginal Heritage Museum

If you intend to visit the museum, it would be wise to contact the administrators first, so as to get a confirmation that they will be open at the time you decide to visit. There is no entry fee to s ee the displays in the facility, so this should not be a reason for you to not visit.
