Ghost Tours

Sydney has its fair share of ghost stories.  There are many buildings over two centuries old and due to some forward thinking many of them are heritage protected.  Sydney is a city with a rich history going back to colonial times and is quite famous for being built by convicts.  Sydney was originally a penal colony.  Sydney is also a port town at a very remote port.  Many people arriving in Sydney though the decades first had to endure months at sea, often times in horrendous, disease infested ships.

Ghosts and paranormal activity seem to be spotted more regularly in buildings that are old and housed traumatic events such as wartime hospitals, insane asylums, prisons, orphanages, and quarantine wards.  Many ghost stories originate with some facts often times surrounded by lovers who have been torn apart, innocents that have died in prisons, people that were killed out of greed, or other traumatic events.  Sydney has many of the conditions ideal for paranormal activity and as such there are quite a few options for thrill seekers to hunt some ghosts of their own.

We have put together some suggestions for a private Ghost tour by coach or minibus.  Gather your most daring friends and come see haunted Sydney.

Haunted Coach Tour – Old Government House Parramatta

Built in 1799 the Old Government House was home to ten early Governors of Australiafor a span of 70 years.  The house is furnished today to reflect the look of the outside which happened in 1821 when the house was added onto by Governor Macquarie.  The furnishings set the stage for a trip back in time to visit another era.

The Australian Convict Sites World Heritage protected building is one of eleven buildings with this honour.  The Australian Convicts Sites tell the frightening story of the largest forced migration of humans the world has ever been witness to, along with the the Age of Enlightenment and modern era and how the development of punishment and reform of criminals evolved during these periods.

Just learning what was once acceptable practice in the treatment of prisoners may be enough to scare you even if you do not encounter anything paranormal.  Knowing how some of the prisoners were treated in the building constructed by convicts will add to your anxiety.

The Ghost Night Tour begins at 7:30 pm, let us know your pickup location and we will tell you what time to be ready for departure.  We will have you to the Government House by 7:15 to check in for your tour.

The Old Government House has been unoccupied since 1855 and since then many stories of ghost sightings and paranormal activity have been reported.  Take a guided tour through the house, see the scene of an accident and learn some of the harrowing history that accompanies this historic home.

Then dine in the splendid vice-regal residence and reflect on your experiences with your group.  The only encounters you can take with you are your memories since there is no photography permitted inside the museum.

The 2015 schedule is every 3rd Friday of the month and Halloween night 31 October.

Your private coach and driver will be waiting for you upon your return and get you safely back to your accommodation.

This tour happens on Friday nights and we suggest red wine from a local vineyard to accompany you on your trip.  Let us know ahead of time that you want red wine on your tour and we will include that in the quote.

Haunted Coach Tour – The Abbey & The Street With No Name

If you are not here for the 3rd Friday of the month how can you get your fix of paranormal activity and ghost chasing?  Luckily Sydney is full of ghost stories and hauntings and we have a special evening tour of two famous places that Sydneysiders swear are haunted but neither place has a guided tour.

This tour is ideal for smaller groups a minibus or private coach is recommended.  We will schedule this tour about an hour before the sun has set so you will be able to see the Abbey as the sun is going down, times will vary throughout the year.

Your private driver will pick you up at your accommodation and head to Annandale, a suburb of Sydney about half an hours drive from the CBD.

The Abbey is a 50 room Gothic style mansion built in 1881.  John Young was a Freemason who built the house to impress his wife but they never lived in it.  It is rumored though that the house was used by Young as a Masonic Lodge and he was the highest ranking Mason in Australia during his lifetime.  His architectural works spread as far as Tasmania and New Zealand.

The hauntings reported have been consistent throughout the years.  A lady in white has been repeatedly spotted roaming the house and the grounds and windows and doors are said to open and close on their own.  See if you can catch a glimpse of the lady in white.

In the 1970s ghost hunters used to come from far and wide to use ectoplasmic machines at The Abbey.

Once finished at the Abbey your driver will take you and your group to The Revolver, one of Sydneys best rated cafes.  The place revolves around convict history and is located in a heritage protected building that was originally intended to be a pub but ended up being a corner store for over 100 years instead.  The Revolver has excellent Australian fare with many organic, and free range options, as well as gluten free and vegan fare.

After your meal it’s time to head back the Sydney CBD and find the Street With No Name.

The Street With No Name has a bloody past going back to 1968 when the body of a three year old boy was found.  The activity and ghost sightings are plentiful and we go into detail about the Street With No Name in another blog article here, WARNING!!  This article is graphic in nature, it is intended for those looking for a real haunted ghost adventure but the stories contained are not nice.
