The Victoria Building

The Victoria Building, dubbed, “The most beautiful shopping centre in the world,” by Pierre Cardin.  This iconic building was built in 1898.  The original purpose for the building was to give a permanent location for the Sydney Markets.  The gorgeous building is filled with stained glass windows and wood panelling with dome ceilings indicative of the time period in which it was built.

There are over 200 shops in the current configuration.  The building was remodelled in 1984.  It was updated but the designers retained the charm from the original building while giving it all the conveniences of a modern building.

The ground floor is filled with old world shops.  This is where you will find some of the most interesting and eclectic shopping in all of Sydney.  The shopping is fabulous, but the building itself draws visitors from all over who appreciate grand architecture.  Old world charm meets modern convenience.  The Victoria Building is not to be missed by anyone who enjoys shopping.

The Rocks

The birthplace of Australia is a section of Sydney referred to as “The Rocks”.  This part of the city is the oldest section and is heritage protected.  The streets are cobblestone and the shop fronts are classic.  You can find antiques and homewares throughout The Rocks that are distinctly Australian.  The Rocks is one of the best places to go hunting for your favorite designer or for up and coming designers.  The Rocks is a mecca for designers and they flock here for inspiration and because Sydneysiders already know they where to go to find the latest in fashions for both men and women.  In addition to clothing designers you will also discover jewelers that make one of a kind pieces using Australia’s famous black opals.

Farmers Markets

Treasure Hunting – Second Hand

The Rozelle Markets started in 1991 and is now known as Sydney’s favourite second hand market.  Heritage protected Rozelle Public School hosts the market every weekend and the market currently draws over 100 stalls with goods ranging from clothing, jewelry, art, crafts, housewares, antiques, electronics and more stuff.

The Rozelle Markets draw people from the filmmaking industry because of the immense variety of goods that pops up at the Rozelle Markets.  Props for TV and movies can range from ancient telephones, to robotic looking toys that are supposed to be futuristic.  Serious collectors love going through the piles and piles of odd things on display looking for the ideal bargain.  Keep your eyes open, and you ears sharp for bargains of a lifetime.  You never know what you may find.  One man’s trash is another mans treasure.
