2017 Kokoda Challenge Brisbane
Making its way through the beautiful D’Aguilar National Forest, the Kokoda Challenge Brisbane will be returning this 3rd and 4th of June, with their 15km and 30 km course options. On popular demand, a 48km course has been introduced for school teams and adult, starting from the Brookfield Showgrounds taking participants through steep descents and climbs with numerous checkpoints for different laps. Along the way, you will come across stunning sceneries and spectacular views, as you tackle the course in the spirit of Kokoda’s values: mateship, endurance and courage.

Open Garden – Authentic Zen Garden
This authentic Japanese Zen Garden will open its doors on the 11th of June, sprawling across 470 hectares of Australian Koala bushland, designed by Tokyo-based Tamon Yamaguchi. It showcases a magnificent display of plants, including Viola, Japanese Maple, Nepalese Blue, Bamboo, Banbusa Chungii, Weeping Willow, Chinese Elm, White Oak, Scarlet Maple, Tropical Birch and Sango Kaku. Enter the tranquil sanctuary through the wood gate as the waterfalls cascade into a pond. Soak up expansive views from the tea house and viewing platform.
1984 by George Orwell’ at QPAC
This dramatisation of George Orwell’s Classic 1984, starting 14th of June, is surely not to be missed. Featuring a completely new cast, it’s coming for a limited season at the Lync Theatre, Queensland Performing Arts Centre. Orwell’s ideas were first published way back in 1949, and in many ways, it has become our reality. Through its characterisation of mind control, pervasive government tracking and perpetual war, it has become one of the most influential novels of all time. You are sure to be amazed by this fantastic transformation of novel to a theatrical performance, with eye catching designs and multimedia.
Moreton Bay Motor Show
The 2-day event scheduled to be held from 17th to 18th of June on the Pine Rivers Park, will witness all things motoring, with the Moreton Bay Motor Show welcoming hordes of motor enthusiasts from all across the state. There is something for everyone here, with fantastic displays at the Car Show & Shine, and the marquee ones at The Show Room. You can interact with the experts in the Motor Talks Pavilion or shop at the Trackside Markets. There will also be some family friendly activities at Little Greasers and some entertainment at the Main Stage.
An Evening with Jane Goodall
The world-renowned scientist and UN Messenger of Peace, Dr Jane Goodall is coming to Australia to spend an evening on the 18th of June, talking about her in-depth research on the relation between human and chimpanzees. She has shown the world how chimpanzees have dark and violent nature, with complex family relationships and intimate friendships. She will be conducting a 20-minute lecture followed by a 40-minute session with a special host.
Thérèse Raquin – Gardens Theatre
Stirring great controversy with its publication more than a century ago, Therese Raquin is an intense examination of tarnished morals and turns the city of love into a menacing setup of murder. Therese lives a life of desperation and servitude in the backstreets of Paris, during the late 19th century, when she is married to her cousin. Her life takes a turn with the entry of her husband’s friend, who creates an emotional love triangle, which was soon heading for a disaster. This gripping thriller will have you on the edge of your seat at the Gardens Theatre on the 21st and 22nd of June.
