Electric Gardens Festival
The line-up for this year’s Electric Gardens Festival in Perth was amazing. Having appeared in Electric Gardens’ 2016 festival, Erick Morillo was back again this year, igniting the crowd. Somehow, he manages to seamlessly mix a seemingly eclectic collection including everything from Basement Backs to Whitney Houston. Additionally, he has been known to collaborate with Boy George, Jamie Jones, Puff Daddy, and more.
The festival takes place in Adelaide, Sydney, Perth, and Melbourne. The exclusive Perth festival already took place on January 19. But because this is an annual event, watch for it around the same time next year. There are promises already being made that the events for next year will be bolder and bigger than ever before, so don’t miss the 2020 Electric Gardens Festival!
Perth Afrobeatz Festival
Yes, that’s spelled correctly! Taking place in Perth’s Langley Park playground on Saturday, March 30th at 10 AM, this festival features jumping castles, balloon twisting, face painting, African clothing and food stalls, Afro dance workshops, African drumming, live performance and live music.
This year will be the second annual presentation of this particular festival. Here, you can live life as you see fit, construct a new reality, connect with the rhythm inside you, relax, move your body, and let your hair down. Come celebrate the culture and unity of Africa at Perth’s family-friendly Afrobeatz Festival.
- A family pass costs $80

- Falls Festival Downtown
The Fremantle Oval Precinct will once again this year be taken over by Falls Downtown. This two-day event reimagines and incorporates buildings, car parks, streets, and historic sites to inspire, entertain and delight both artists and audiences. Every January, not far from Perth, the small city goes all out for the enjoyment of the crowd. Pencil it in for your 2020 vacation.
Fairbridge Festival
Taking place April 26th through the 28th, 95 km south of Perth in Fairbridge Village, this annual celebration of roots, world, and folk music is family-friendly, self-contained, traffic free, and in a heritage-listed village. Escape from everyday life with nearly 100 acts after a short, 1-hour drive from Perth. This festival might just be WA’s best kept secret! But not for long, so get your tickets and attend before everybody in the world finds out.
SOTA Festival
WA’s best and biggest homegrown talent is featured here, banging out tunes at this co-presented by WAM event. Headliners will include everything from Aussie hip-hop to alternative rock with a mix of new, old, and W.A. favourites. The festival takes place this year in June, for one day, date and cost to be announced.
Listen Out
Somewhere around September’s end or the beginning of October, a smaller but carefully handcrafted party atmosphere can be found at the Listen Out music festival. This event takes place in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, and, yes, Perth. Its philosophy is that you don’t have to be the biggest to be the best, and it promises a killer line-up of dance music for one and all.
If you are used to venues that include thousands of people with which you have nothing in common, long hikes between dozens of stages, and timetable clashes between your favourite bands, this will be a refreshing change of pace. Even with its lesser stature, it is one of Brisbane’s top music festivals!
Keep your eyes open for TBA dates.
Perth Festival
We would be sadly remiss if we did not mention the enormously popular Perth Festival, even though it has already begun for the year. This was its 66th year in existence, and the massive party ordinarily takes place between the months of February and March, for three weeks. This year, it runs from February 8 through March 3ird and involves various venues. Toward the beginning of November, tickets usually go on sale, so watch for tickets for next year starting around November 5.
Orbital, The Preatures Unplugged, Christine and the Queens, Nothing But Thieves, The Internet, Beach House, Cat Power, and Freddy Kempf were just a few of the acts involved in the 2019 music line-up.
WASO’s Festival of Chamber Music
While you might not make it this year, because the dates for this festival are March 2nd and 3rd, be sure to mark it on your calendar for next year. Held at the Government House Ballroom, this event features some of the most exquisitely written chamber ensembles ever composed and performed. The setting is intimate and beautiful. The chamber ensemble of WASO (West Australian Symphony Orchestra) performs distinctive concerts numbering no less than seven. This is a musical feast for everyone, featuring wind octets to brass quintets, Britten to Bach, and everything in between. Surround yourself with a beautiful yet festive atmosphere while you soak up the sounds.
Festivalgoers have the option of making this weekend experience as short or as long as they would like. Settle in for the day, go to one singular concert, or make an entire weekend out of this event. Not to be missed – the Sunday Twilight Gala where a splendid performance from WASO’s Strings follows a special picnic.
With various packages available, there is something to fit nearly every taste.
