About The Rocks

Located in the historic area of Sydney’s city centre, The Rocks is one of Sydney’s key neighbourhoods and a well-known tourist precinct. The Rocks is located approximately one mile from Sydney’s Central Business District and has a population of more than 600. Its history dates far back to the 1780s when most of its original buildings were still made from local sandstone.

From solid wooden beams, cobblestone laneways to crushed cockle shells, you can easily see how The Rocks got its name. The Rocks is a unique neighbourhood, and while it has plenty of secrets to share, you do not have to wander far to find them! Some great examples include the award-winning Big Dig Archaeology and Education Centre, The Rocks Discovery Museum and more. If you can’t wait to get in touch with the local history, consider making The Rocks your next holiday destination.
