About the City of Manningham
Formerly known as the City of Doncaster & Templestowe, the area was initially a part of Wurundjeri territory that spans across the rippling valleys of Mullum Mullum, Ruffey and the Koonung creeks and along the southern banks of Yarra River, alternating from the remnant bushland in the east to the low-density suburban housing in the west. The district promotes a balance of city and countryside lifestyle as it includes the transition between natural and artificial environment.
A majority of European settlers who arrived through the 1850s were orchardists, and this was the time when gold was first discovered at Andersons Creek. It was on December 15, 1994 that the Manningham municipality was created as a part of general reshuffling of local government bodies. It contained the former City of Doncaster & Templestowe and portions of City of Maroondah and Wonga Park.
