How to Travel Australia and Find Great Restaurants
Australia has always attracted tourists naturally. However, like any country, Australia wants the world to know about its best attraction. Of recent, this is now focusing on Australian food.
When you mention Australia, most instantly think of chucking a snag on the barbieâ and plenty of canned beers nearby. Yet, Australian cuisine is way beyond this and that is something they are trying to promote. The cuisine available is both diverse and of incredibly high standards.
2014 brings a new focus to tourism, the era of Food and Wine focused traveling. Savour Australia is where this new focused was announced (a major international wine event).
What Will Restaurant Australia Offer Tourists?
While Australian wine is already quite well known for its quality, the perception of Australian food doesn’t even come near what the country offers its visitors. The standards are high and there really is some amazing food available, but most who have not actually visited don’t know this.
From deliciously prepared Australian dishes, to delicate flavour fusions foods; the choice is yours. However, personally I recommend trying out both. Being based close to Asia and having a strong international community, Australia offers up some really incredible fusion foods. However, don’t think of just Australia meals with twists. Think of Thai cuisine blended with Indian spices, think truly international combinations, think of your mouth watering as hidden flavours reveal themselves.
REAL Aussie Food Please!
However, maybe you aren’t visiting Australia to try new blends. Possibly you want to try Aussie foods that you just can’t try back home, you want to eat something that is truly Australian.
Well, thankfully there is also quite a range of unique Aussie dishes on offer too.
Pride of a Nation
Fancy some Emu? This very healthy bird produces high iron, lean meat and is very tasty. It blends very nicely when used in pastas and on pizzas. If you prefer a bit of a tang, try the smoked meat. For the sweeter tooths out there, lamingtons are a great option and often considered to be the National Cake of Australia. Also reportedly to be the origin of Pavlova … well, maybe. To be fair, it is still in dispute, but it is certainly something to try while here! For food outside, there are of course Aussie snags, prawn cocktails, pigs in blankets and many more loved treats. Ask any Aussie and they will happily steer you in the right direction, if not serve you up some of their own tucker.
Where to go?
Well, that really depends on what you want to experience. However, two great starting points are Sydney and Adelaide. These places are already famous for high standards and diverse options for tastebud tantalizing nights out. If you arenât sure, then with the new focus on food, you can easily find the best examples of where to go for the food you want to try available online. There are even mobile phone apps to guide you to the door of the most recommended places.
Alternatively, as with almost any country, talk to the locals. Most Australians are a friendly bunch and proud to be Australian. Ask them about the best places to eat and local foods to try and you’ll not only find some hidden treats, but will probably make a new friend too.
